Carsen Edwards Signs 4 year $4.5 Million Deal with Boston Celtics...Ben Simmons Desperately Needs a Sports Psychiatrist
I’m bored and exhausted. I hate the summer because I can never find time to get to the beach and there are never any sports on TV. Great, I can watch professional lacrosse. Cool. The PLL feels like an amateur men’s league. Until there’s more on the line, I don’t think anyone will care. There’s something about guys playing for peanuts that feels mundane. I love college lacrosse, but I cannot get into the professional league for some reason. Maybe it will get better over time? I hope so. The PLL has a lot of talent, but I still can’t find a reason to care about any of this. Oh Well. There are only 49 days until Texas plays their first football game and I guess that’s all I have to look forward to right now.
There is one sports storyline going on right now that I love. Carsen Edwards killed it in summer league and it is making 76er fans visibly ill. For those of you who don’t know, the 76ers drafted Carsen Edwards with the 33rd pick in this year’s draft and traded him almost immediately to the Boston Celtics. Sixer’s fans were excited to finally have a true point guard on roster only to have him shipped away. Edwards averaged 18 points a game in the NBA summer league and just signed a 4 year $4.5 million contract with the Celtics. His highlights have been all over Instagram and all of my friends are pissed. Now they are stuck without a true point guard and will have to watch while Ben Simmons clogs the lane and wonder what might have been. Shame.
If you’ve read this blog, then you know I think the Sixers should trade Simmons while he is still perceived as having upside. I don’t care what Tobias Harris says. The dude won’t come back with a shot next season. It’s not like the issues with other low percentage shooters in the league. Simmons’ big issue isn’t a mechanical one like Lonzo Ball’s issue. Simmons has a mental issue blocking his shot. He is afraid to shoot and that is much harder to get over than a mechanic at year four.
It must feel miserable to be a Sixers fan. Your franchise has placed their confidence and future into a player who appears discouraged and afraid. He needs to see a shrink about this one folks. It’s not as simple as hitting the gym and getting with a coach to correct his form.
They need to have him lay back on a long couch and ask him some questions– Who hurt you, Ben? Why do you have this insecurity surrounding your game? Ben, can I call you Ben… Ben, tell me about your childhood? How does that make you feel?
A few dozen sessions like that and the sixers may just have a chance at developing a superstar. Just be sure his shrink is a fan. The last thing you need is a Celtics fan going in there and confusing Ben Simmons beyond the point of no return. Those psychiatrists can get into your head and twist your mind into doing all sorts of stuff. Christ, the wrong guy could have him scoring for the other team and fouling out in the first 30 seconds of every game! It’s a gamble to play with an athletes psyche, but it looks like the team is about out of options if they plan to win a championship.
Speaking of summer league, the spurs have closed out their summer season with a loss to the Phoenix Suns. They didn’t play any of their new draft picks or Lonnie Walker IV so the loss feels pretty irrelevant. Things look good for their young core and I’m excited to watch things develop going forward.
